Take it or weave it
The next time you head to our BGC Flagship Store, look up! Above the Havaianas Rainbow wall, you’ll see a tapestry made of non-traditional woven fabric that blends in perfectly with the store’s Filipino-inspired interiors.
This interior detail is the product of a partnership between Havaianas and Creative Definitions, a company that collaborates with Negros Occidental-based weavers from Kabankalan, Valladolid, and Oringao. The fabric -- called Habol Negrense, or weaving by people of Negros) was made by a small group of weavers from Brgy. Oringao, Kabankalan City. They used Philippine cotton farmed by cotton farmers in Iloilo and Negros through HABI Philippine Textile Council and supported by the Department of Agriculture.
To support the women weavers and help them develop long-term sustainability, Creative Definitions collaborates with them for a number of items made using the woven fabrics, including scarves, blankets, placemats, and more.
The tapestry may be a small detail in the grand scheme, but it serves as a reminder that even the littlest things have a story behind them.
